Here’s a historical-fantasy/romance novel that our readers will enjoy. The book is The King’s Daughter by Miriam Newman and it is a worth reading. The book is published by The Dark Castle Lords (DCL Publications), and I have included a link at the bottom of the review for those who are looking for their next great read.
Personally I would class this book more in the realm of historical-romance. It does have elements of the Fantasy genre, but it isn’t a traditional fantasy novel as most readers would see the genre. Given that DCL specializes in Romance novels, I guess this makes sense.
Okay, so let’s talk about the book:
The book is written from the point of view of Princess Tarabenthia, and it tells the story of this young woman as she loses her rank of Princess and struggles with being sold into slavery and eventually makes her way out of her problems. The book includes things you would expect from this genre – war, intrigue, treachery, revenge, and romance.
I’m normally not a big fan of books written in first-person point of view, but I did enjoy this particular book. The plot is well thought out, Miriam has an energetic and emphatic style that makes the book enjoyable, and the pacing is just right.
The only complaint that I had about this one (and it didn’t actually take away from the reading enjoyment) was that it felt slightly disjointed between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. The prologue gives an exemplary example of how to capture a readers interest, Chapter 1 gives some back story, and then Chapter 2 is where the novel really felt like the story takes hold and brings the reader into this well laid out world. I’m actually going to write this complaint off as my own personal reading taste. I did check some other reviews and no one else seemed to feel the same.
All in all it was a good read, and I am recommending it to anyone who enjoys a historical-romance with a little fantasy thrown into the mix! Use the link below to buy the book, and read an excerpt from the novel.
