Fiction eBook Review (Horror) Bestseller by Keith Latch

Posted by Trevas On December - 15 - 2008

Not normally a reader of the horror genre, I was pleasantly surprised Keith Latch’s new novel, titled “Bestseller”. Following with its title this one promises to become a Bestselling eBook itself!

I think it’s important to note the reasons why I wouldn’t normally read horror novels, before I actually get to my thoughts on Keith’s new book. It isn’t that I don’t enjoy the genre – I do. Normally though, anything I have read outside of works by Stephen King, Dean R. Koontz, or occasionally John Saul have fallen short of my expectations. Most novels in this genre tend to either be so out there that the plot gets lost in the weird, or they tend to be all gore and guts which is also a turn off (of course that doesn’t take into account the repetitiveness of many new authors in this genre).

My way of thinking was suddenly changed when I read Bestseller. Here is a new horror novel that it completely unique, original in its representations of the supernatural, and is a thoroughly enjoyable read. With this one, I couldn’t put it down. I read it from start to finish with only a few hours to sleep in between. The book is completely enthralling, and will draw you in.

Without giving away any of the storyline:

Bestseller tells the tale of one man who after dreaming of becoming a writer for many years suddenly finds his dream. After an accident that almost killed him Robert Caulder is given what seems to be a gift – the gift of the written word. He finally realizes the much sought after success he has always wanted as a writer.

All is not rosy on the other side of the fence however, and throughout the first half of the book we walk with Caulder through divorce, a rise to fame, and ultimately to his own trip down the road of no return. Just as you think he has finally figured it all out and may just make things right again, we reach the twist in the plot; and this one really is worth waiting for.

I think where this novel really differs from every other horror novel I have ever read is in the storyline. Keith takes the time to build a good plot, to make well rounded characters that you will love, hate, and relate to. He also makes the novel suspenseful enough that you won’t want to quit reading.

I won’t give away anymore of the story, but I am definitely recommending this eBook to anyone interested in finding that next great read. With this one Keith has earned one new fan for sure (me), and if all of his other novels are this good, I expect that he will see great success in his writing career.

You can get your own copy of Bestseller from Champagne Books. The book is available in most popular eBook formats. For anyone who enjoys a good read – you won’t want to miss this one!

I don’t read horror very often, because I’m a chicken. I get nightmares, but it sounds like an interesting idea.
